Although Michael Mazzone started his company, Statewide General Contracting & Construction Inc., in 2004, his passion for this industry began much earlier than that – it started when
he was only six years of age. After watching his childhood home burn down, he became inspired by the rebuild, and eventually, he, and four other friends started a drywall business doing smaller-scale projects on tenant improvement and remodels until Statewide General Contracting & Construction, Inc. was formed.
MEET THE TEAM
After enlisting in the Marine Corps, Michael pursued a career in drywall installation starting as an apprentice with the Hawaii Carpenters Union Apprentice program. He then graduated from Honolulu Community College and worked with a large commercial drywall company which gave him the opportunity to work on some of Hawaii’s largest construction projects, such as Queen’s Medical Center, the Hilton Hawaiian Village, and other residential high rises. In the Summer of 1995, he was offered an opportunity to work in the Union office and for the Apprentice Training Fund where he began training and guiding apprentices/journeyman members in their careers. He also handled advanced training in health and safety in areas like scaffold and OSHA compliance. By 2000, he went back to installing metal framing, drywall, and acoustical ceilings. His impeccable skills in managing the projects, the team, and running the division for previous employers gave him the confidence to run his own business. That’s when his employer told him “if you are ever going to go on your own, you’d better take it now” So he did in 2004.
Jennifer graduated with a Bachelor in Business Administration with an accounting minor from Saginaw Valley State University. She is an active notary public issued by the State of Hawaii. Jennifer previously worked for a CPA firm and continued in public accounting until 2013 in Michigan. She was then hired by a moving company to process payroll for about 300 employees before she moved to Hawaii. In 2016, she joined Statewide and manages its full-service accounting and finance department.
Darren graduated from Hawaii Community College trade school where he received a journeyman certification upon completion of his 3 years in college. After 16 years in the construction business as an apprentice, he eventually became the General Superintendent/General Manager for a large company before joining and managing the whole operations department for Statewide.
